Kannada Debate Competition

From improving speaking and listening skills to building self-esteem and rounded knowledge of a specific subject or topic, debating remains an important aspect of many educational system. In accord to this, Kannada debate competition was conducted for the I & II PU students of St Agnes PU College on July 22, 2024.

The competition commenced with an opening ceremony that included a welcome address by the Cultural Secretary Ms Sanjana Vinod. The judges of this competition were Mrs Shubhavani and Mrs Preema, Lecturers in Computer Science, St Agnes PU College. Their expertise and impartiality ensured the fair evaluation of each debate and the selection of winners based on merits. The debate topics covered a wide range of relevant and thought provoking subjects like ‘ಕೃತಕ ಬುಧ್ದಿ ಮತ್ತೆಯೇ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಸಮಾಜವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುವ ಸಾಧನ’,

‘ಯುವಜನತೆಗೆ ದೊರೆತ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರö್ಯ ಸ್ವೇಚಾಚಾರದ ಪರಮಾವಧಿಯೇ’ for the first and second years respectively.
A total of 23 students from I PU and 20 students from II PU participated in the competition. The participants shared their perspectives about each of these topics. Several important issues like, the benefits and the adverse effects of granting freedom to the students were highlighted by the participants. There was also an insightful discussion about how artificial intelligence affects the modern society. There were mixed opinions as to how artificial intelligence helps us think better and how it hinders our capacity to think beyond boundaries. The diverse perspectives among the participants added depth to the debate and showcased the multicultural essence of the event.

Among the First years First place was bagged by Poorvi Shetty of PCMC, Second Place by Sathwika Bhat of PCMB and Third place was shared by Koushavi of CSBA and Sristi of HEPP. From Second Years First place was grabbed by Rachel Maria of PCMB, Second place by Saanvi Kottary of PCMC and Third place was shared by Leeshal of BEBA and Krithi N Shetty of PCMC.
