Girl Child Day
St Agnes PU College celebrated Girl Child Day on 25th October with enthusiasm
and pride, reaffirming the commitment of empowering and uplifting young girls. CA
Nerissa C Noronha, Proprietor Nerissa Noronha & Co, Chartered Accountants, was
the guest of honour.
The programme commenced with a prayer song. Hamna Dawood Peruwad extended
a warm and graceful welcome to the distinguished guests, Principal, Vice Principal,
staff, parents, and students. Adding colour and creativity to the celebration, the
students of II BSBA / BEBA and II CSBA performed a dance drama portraying the
achievements of the girl child despite societal restrictions. Their performance
beautifully conveyed the message of determination, empowerment, and equality,
leaving a lasting impression on the audience. On this occasion, deserving students
were awarded ‘Abhaya’ scholarships. This initiative further reinforced the
commitment to supporting and uplifting young women in their academic and
personal journey. The Chief Guest, CA Nerissa Noronha, an illustrious alumna of St
Agnes PU College, was felicitated for her remarkable achievements in the field of
Commerce and for serving as an inspiring role model to young women. In her
address, she emphasized the importance of education, self-confidence, and
perseverance in overcoming challenges and achieving success by quoting the theme
for international day of the girl child 2025 – “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls
on the frontlines of crisis”. Her words motivated the students to dream big and make
a difference in society.
Viola Risha Fernandes efficiently compered the event. A heartfelt vote of thanks was
delivered by Niharika, who expressed deep gratitude in making the celebration a
grand success. Sr Judith, Lecturer in Commerce & Mrs Chrystle Almeida, HOD of
Statistics & Dean for Commerce were the coordinators of the programme. The
principal Sr Norine Dsouza AC, Abhaya Coordinator Dr Tressie Menezes,
the staff, PTA members, and the students witnessed the programme which concluded
with the national anthem.
